Veel sneller dan verwacht, kreeg ik al antwoorden op mijn vragen die ik vanmiddag aan Tilde Gallery in Palermo had gestuurd met betrekking tot mogelijke publicatie in het kunst fotoboek “Imago 4”; een boek die de galerie in eigen beheer uitbrengt.
Imago 4 is een publicatie in eigen beheer van Tilde Gallery die gevestigd is in de Italiaanse stad Palermo.
Een open uitnodiging van twee weken geleden, die ik via de e-mail ontving, bevatte een uitgebreid PDF-document waar ik nog wat vragen over had en die ik vanmiddag via de e-mail had gestuurd:
1. I’d like to know a name of the person with who I am communicating with, so who is the contact person for the gallery?
2. What is the total circulation of this photo book? How many books
are printed or is it print on demand?
3. You mention Eugène Atget as the photographer to which this
photobook is dedicated. Although the submission of photos is open to any photographic theme or approach, as you wrote it, what photos exactly have you seen on my website that you think is appropriate for this edition?
4. I mainly am a portrait/fashion photographer so I always have to
work with other people. The way I work with my (parents of the) models is that I always ask permission to use their photos for, for example, a publication. That sometimes takes time, but it is never rejected. I know one question from (the parents of) the models will come: “Can I have a copy of the photobook as well?”.
You mention one copy is included, what about extra copies, what will they cost?
5. Is this photobook a primeraly and only for your galerie, or is it
also distributed to other galeries, museums and/or artcollectors?
Het antwoord op de vragen ontving ik dus al direct vanavond:

Congratulations on your work!
The books are printed regardless, but if demand exceeds the print run, they are reprinted.
De contactpersoon – het is fijn om nu ook een naam te hebben bij de galerie – verwijst in haar e-mail nog naar foto’s die haar waren opgevallen en waarin ze was geïnteresseerd.
Die heeft ze inderdaad bijgevoegd in de e-mail en waren in totaal 4 foto’s:

Het is opvallend dat de curator vooral zwart-witte foto’s heeft uitgekozen.
Zou dat dan de voorkeur hebben voor publicatie in Imago 4?
Het zijn vooral ook foto’s van lang geleden en ik weet niet of dat überhaupt een probleem zal zijn.
Wanneer deze foto’s daadwerkelijk geplaatst kunnen worden, zal ik daar wel de toestemming van moeten hebben van de modellen die op de foto’s staan (behalve dan Merlin) en aangezien het al zo lang geleden is, weet ik niet of ik met hen nog contact kan krijgen.
Morgen zal ik haar een aantal recentere foto’s uit mijn portfolio sturen om te zien of die ook in aanmerking kunnen komen voor de publicatie.
Ik heb in ieder geval aan het eind van de avond haar ook direct een e-mail terug gestuurd:
“Dear ***,
Thank you so much for your quick reply and nice to get acqainted with you.
At this very moment (it’s late) I only wanted to let you know I’ve
received your email.
I’ll come back on it tomorrow in more detail, but I appreciate your
quick response.
