Naar aanleiding van het voorstel dat de curatoren van MAD Gallery Milaan een paar dagen geleden hebben gedaan, borrelden er bij mij een aantal vragen en overdenkingen op. Deze heb ik vandaag naar hen toegestuurd.
“Thank you so much for this email! I really feel priviliged that you wrote me this email with the proposal for 2019!
I’m really thrilled with the proposal, but on the other hand there’s now this consideration I’ve to make. I know that I’ve to invest in things like exhibtions and publications and that’s okay. But I also have to be aware of my bankaccount; that is not bottomless. Beside that I have to take into account what the revenue is so far. Till this day, I haven’t earned a single dime with both the photography and the exhibitions/publications.
With all the money spent I haven’t seen a significant increase of visitors at my website nor did I receive any emails of potential buyers or new models. In general there has been no benefit so far with being published, exhibited and/or receiving international prizes.
With the 36 hours exhibition fresh in mind, I also didn’t see an increase of visitors to my website and/or interest shown via an email.
With your proposal there’s another sum of money involved. Of course you cannot guarantee anything at all when you exhibit and promote my images the way you do, and I do appreciate the time and work you do for me. Looking in that way, the money will be well spend.
From your point of view, as a curator and gallery owner, it’s simply business; there’s nothing wrong with that. You, of course, want to get as many artists you can, who want to work with you, because you earn your living with it. And, again, there’s nothing wrong with that and is simply part of the deal. From my point of view, I would have expected an increase in interest via visitors and/or contact via email.
So I’ve to think this over. It’s to me like being on a crossroad. Will I spent more money on this or will I stop spending money on exhibitions and publications, because it has never led to selling a photo or to get new models.
Bringing me back to your proposal.
If I understand it well, I’m able to exhibit 20 images beside the images that are now in the exhibtion? But I don’t understand completely whether it is possible to change the images during the year.
What I do understand is that you offer 4 solo-exhibitions with the newest work (if any). But is it also possible to incorporate images from new work during the year for the permanent exhibition? So, say I have a great image shot in February 2019, can I change it with an image from the permanent exhibition?
When do you need to know my decision about accepting the proposal?”
Het wachten is nu op een antwoord, maar dat kan wel even duren omdat de curatoren van een welverdiende zomervakantie gaan genieten.
Wordt hoe dan ook vervolgd.
